'Although from childhood music has been a constant part of my being, I have not played or owned a piano for over 20 years. My recent purchase of a Steinway Model “B” grand piano has allowed me to re-enter, albeit hesitatingly, the vast and rich canon of classical piano repertoire.'

'My absolute delight in the exquisite craftsmanship, design and the breadth of sound of my Steinway has been made even more meaningful by my recent visit to Hamburg, where I not only had a two hour detailed tour of inspection of the most impressive Steinway & Sons factory, but was able to make a selection from several Steinway B models, “choose” my own piano, and have it flown to Sydney within a few weeks of my visit.'

'Theme and Variations has worked at centre stage for me to make what was a dream become a seamless reality. It is a continuing pleasure to be a part of their “Steinway family” in Sydney.'

'My visit to the Theme & Variations Piano Services Showroom was a very enjoyable and eye-opening experience - so many grand pianos in one venue! I was given the opportunity to try out many of the pianos there, and any queries I had were answered clearly and patiently.'

'My family and I decided to purchase a Boston GP-193 because it had a suitable touch which would benefit my technique, and because its sound was clear, sonorous and well-balanced across the entire range. Considering that the price of this grand piano was quite suitable for the family budget, we felt that the quality of this Boston was well worth the purchase.'

'Since buying the piano, I have had great pleasure practising on the instrument, and my parents have also enjoyed occasionally tapping some melodies on the keys too! Practising on the Boston has greatly improved my finger strength, technique and expressiveness, and has also increased my confidence in performing on grand pianos.'

'David my husband has always been totally nutty about Nick Cave and my two daughters, Lucy and Kate, had been begging for piano lessons for years. I had been very reluctant as they both played other instruments which they often struggled to find the time for practice. In fairly typical style, my resolve was weakened and not only did I organise lessons but immediately the girls and I hot-footed it to Theme & Variation to see what was on offer. Well what was I to do? There was a beautiful shiny black Boston that Nick Cave had played at his last Sydney concert, complete with a small scar on some of the keys made by the man himself (I believe caused when he ran the back of his hand along the keys whilst wearing a chunky ring). Needless to say, we bought the piano and Theme and Variation repaired the scratched keys and even organised to have Nick Cave send us a personalised letter with his Anthology. We love our piano. The girls are now playing even more instruments, but they always find the time to play their Boston.'

'As a result of purchasing my Essex Grand, my interest in the classics has been reborn. I dug out some of the music I played as a student many years ago and although my performance leaves much to be desired the richness of the tone inspires me to keep on practicing. I would also like to thank all the most helpful people at Theme & Variations for their assistance in the purchase and tuning of my lovely instrument and also for providing me with up to date news via their newsletter, Soundboard. I have also just recently joined SIPCA and will follow their activities with interest.'

'I was recommended to Theme and Variations by another piano retailer.  They helped me choose my piano, playing each individual piano to find the one which gave me just the sound and action I wanted.  The piano I chose was a Boston upright which fitted up our staircase and into its position upstairs.  And I love it - each time I walk past it I am itching to stop and play.  Both my daughters play it now too and I'm happy to have an instrument that is so responsive to our touch and produces such a lovely sound.  My relationship with Theme and Variations has continued as they keep my piano in tune and I enjoy the many musical events they invite me to.'
