The Steinway-family in Far North Queensland

Steinway-designed Pianos – the Instruments of Choice at the upcoming Australian Festival of Chamber Music (4 – 12 July 2008)

Audiences and performers at the upcoming Australian Festival of Chamber Music (4th – 12th July 2008) in Townsville, Queensland, will this year be able to delight in the sounds of Steinway-designed pianos including Steinway & Sons, Boston and Essex grands and uprights.

Artistic Director, Piers Lane is delighted to have Steinway ‘on-board’. “The artistic success of the AFCM is made possible through the generous sponsorship. Join us for a musical and personal experience which, I have no doubt, will prove uplifting and joyous.”

Each year the Festival attracts around 30 chamber musicians from across the world to give concerts and teach Australia’s emerging artists through the Winterschool program. Concerts from the Festival are broadcast nationally on the ABC Classic FM network.

afcmlogo.gifTownsville is the largest tropical city in Australia, with a sophisticated tourism infrastructure. Visit the city’s historic buildings, Indigenous and contemporary art galleries, museum, wildlife sanctuary and tropical botanic gardens. Swim at the sensational city beaches between concerts. The restaurants and bars which run along the Strand beachfront promenade have sweeping views of Cleveland Bay whilst Palmer Street provides a hub of restaurants. Winter is the best time to visit Townsville. The rain and heat of summer has passed, replaced by the ‘dry season’ with average temperature 25 degrees and an almost unbroken spell of more than 300 days of clear blue skies, warm sunshine and gentle tropical breezes.

The general public can help in raising funds for the AFCM Winterschool program during the last weekend of the Festival. A portion of the sale of a piano will go directly to the AFCM. Customers can choose from a wide selection of fine instruments at an exclusive sales event being held at Rydges Southbank, Palmer Street, Townsville. A limited time of three days only on a first-come basis. It is a fantastic opportunity for residents in Far-North Queensland to select from such an array of pianos in Townsville. For more information about this sales event or to schedule an appointment phone 07 3852 1988.
