Judy Watson Nominated for a Deadly Award 2008

Since 1995, the Deadly Awards have celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander excellence in music, sport, the arts and community achievement.

The 14th annual Deadlys will take place on the 9th October 2008 at the Sydney Opera House.

Left: Judy Watson, nominee of the Visual Artist of the Year award, with the work ‘ochre & blood, mother of pearl’ 2007, now for sale at Theme & Variations.

‘ochre & blood, mother of pearl’ is contemporary Australian indigenous art with a difference – you can play it! A new Steinway Model A (Hamburg) is the canvas for this culturally significant work.

The list of this year’s nominees is a roll call of Indigenous excellence, with Olympic athletes and champion football stars jostling for position alongside internationally recognised artists, acclaimed authors and award-winning educators.

Voting is now open in the 2008 Deadly Awards – the national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music, sport, entertainment and community awards.
