The infectious rhythms of jazz and swing have made their way to the Emporium Hotel.
Slinky and sexy sounds with Brisbane’s very best all come together Thursday through to Saturday on the Essex piano.
The hottest acts in town are tinkling the ivories including Simon Watson, Jasper, The Don Beddington band and the wonderful jazz Diva herself Melissa Western. The cocktails are cool and the Jazz is hot so groove in to listen to some real swingin’ cats!
“The walnut finish was chosen because its rich wood grains complement the eclectic finishes in the bar,” explains Mr. Savoff, General Manager of the Emporium Hotel, referring to the sparkling glass, the mirror-finish stainless steel, the illuminated onyx bar top. Completing the pallette is furniture upholstered in traditional leather and velvet, paired with retro-pattern fabrics.
“These combinations … rather than being bold and striking … provide a warm, inviting atmosphere that is beautifully accented by the Essex grand’s walnut finish.”
That rich finish encases the Essex grand piano’s equally rich sound that “allows a wide range of musical styles to be performed, either by a soloist or as part of a music ensemble.” And, indeed, that versatility has proved extremely useful whether the piano provides background instrumental music, accompanies vocals or is part of the club’s music combo of two or more musicians who play on it.
Moreover, guests and staff are encouraged to play although the Essex grand is used primarily by the professionals who perform regularly in the lounge. “The pianists love the rich, powerful sound of the Essex grand,” Mr. Savoff observes. “The only amplification needed during performances is for their voices.”
Mr. Savoff points out that the Emporium’s Essex grand is situated strategically near the entrance to the stunning bar, which adjoins the hotel lobby. “This way, patrons can see the beauty of the instrument as they enter the bar and can appreciate its sound as soon as they enter the hotel.”
