The National Youth Concerto Competition (NYCC) was established by John Curro AM MBE in 1976 to encourage the development of exceptional young Australian string players, and is the most significant competition of its kind in Australia. Applicants must be seventeen years or under and not studying at a tertiary institution. 
Previous winners of the competition include the Richard Tognetti (1980), Nicholas Milton (1985), Li-Wei Qin (1993), Kristian Winther (2000), Ray Chen (2002). Many previous participants have pursued a successful musical career both nationally and internationally.
