Artist of the Month – Piers Lane AO

Piers Lane

How acclaimed Australian pianist, Piers Lane AO does it, many of us will never know!  Performing in his most extensive Australian tour – Chopin by Candlelight, then immediately taking on the role of Artistic Director of the Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia as well as Artistic Director of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music – he certainly has to be one of the busiest musicians around!

Born in London to a British Dad and a North Queensland Mum, he moved to Brisbane at the precocious age of five months!  His talent propelled him at an early age back to London, and then straight on to the finest international stages.  With a reputation for performing with ‘conviction, commitment, poeticism and music-serving virtuosity’ (The Times, UK), he elicits a miraculous range of colours and atmospheres from the piano.

His next Australian stage appearance will be at the upcoming Huntington Music Festival later this year.  His program will offer a glimpse of his sold-out Chopin recitals for Wigmore Hall, as well as demonstrating his famed versatility as a renowned concert soloist and adored chamber music colleague.

Before the Huntington Music Festival, Piers will appear in Christchurch for the Rachmaninov 2nd Piano Concerto, and will also perform in Alaska, Ireland and Korea.  Back in Australia he will appear in Wangaratta, Geelong and Ngeringa before making his way to Huntington.
