LEV VLASSENKO PIANO COMPETITION: OPENING CONCERT
John Lill plays with the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra
3pm Sunday 11 August 2013
Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3
Queensland Conservatorium Theatre, Southbank, Brisbane
The Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition returns once again to Queensland Conservatorium as one of the most prestigious competitions of its type. As the leading piano competition for young pianists in Australia for the past ten years, it is a rare opportunity to see the amazing talent and superb technical ability of many young musicians in one place.
Each competitor and judge are able to play on Steinway & Sons and Steinway-designed Boston and Essex pianos. Theme & Variations Piano Services are Principal Sponsors along with Griffith University, Queensland Government and Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
The Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition encourages and inspires performers to grow as musicians and perfect their craft as internationally acclaimed pianists. The opening concert will be a wonderful occasion bringing the emotive sounds of a piano to life.
In the spirit of the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition which he is in Brisbane to judge, John Lill CBE will inspire and foster excellence in young musicians by playing a single performance of Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto with the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Michael Morgan.
Arguably Britain’s best known pianist, John Lill first came to international attention when he won the coveted Tchaikovsky award in Moscow in 1970. Known for his aristocratic interpretations of Beethoven and the great masters of the nineteenth and twentieth century piano repertoire, John Lill performs all over the world and was awarded a CBE in the 2005 New Year’s Honours List. This is his only Brisbane performance and should not be missed.
Mr John Lill will perform on a Steinway & Sons Model D provided & prepared by Theme & Variations Piano Services.
